THE EXAMPLE OFFERED HERE IS THE ONLY ONE KNOWN WITH THE SIDE IMPRINT MARGINS INTACT AND IS ARGUABLY THE FINEST OF THE $500 "PERSIAN RUG" EXTANT.

This stamp, initialed by Erastus Corning, Jr. was purchased along with a $200 and $50 stamp, to pay taxes on the will of Erastus Corning, Sr. who died April 9, 1872. The stamps were not applied to the document but kept with it and remained in the family for 113 years.
According to the Kinsley census, there are only three examples that qualify as sound and Very Fine. This is census #6-13.
